1INCH Governance Process

Simple Summary

This proposal seeks to implement a temperature check poll in phase 3 of the governance process, where proposals must pass a minimum of 3 votes and a 50% majority before they can move to phase 4.

Abstract

The current governance process allows proposals to move through five phases, however, there is no mechanism in place to ensure that proposals have enough support before they move to the final voting phase. This will help ensure that proposals have a higher chance of passing in the final voting phase and reduce the time and effort wasted on proposals that do not have enough support.

Motivation

The lack of a temperature check poll in the current governance process often results in a backlog of proposals that do not have enough support to pass in the final voting phase. By implementing a temperature check poll, we can ensure that proposals have a higher chance of passing in the final voting phase and reduce the time and effort wasted on proposals that do not have enough support.

Specification

This proposal seeks to implement a temperature check poll in phase 3 of the governance process. Proposals must receive a minimum of 3 votes and a 50% majority to move to phase 4. The temperature check poll will remain open for a minimum of 3 days to allow members sufficient time to vote.

This will ensure that proposals follow a _codified _process that is more objective rather than subjective process that is currently followed.

Rationale

This will reduce the time and effort wasted on proposals that do not have enough support and allow the DAO to focus on proposals that have a higher chance of success. By implementing this proposal, the governance process will become more efficient, and members will be able to see the progress of proposals more clearly.

Considerations

One possible concern with this proposal is that it may delay the governance process. However, the minimum voting threshold and time frame for the temperature check poll have been carefully selected to ensure that the process remains efficient. Another concern may be the possibility of gaming the system, but this can be mitigated by working with commonwealth to implement a new feature where each temp check poll shows the voter

Next Steps

If this proposal is approved by governance, the amendment will be added to the governance process documentation. The temperature check poll will be conducted in phase 3 for all future proposals, and proposals must pass the temperature check poll before they can move to phase 4.

Thank you @Bobby_StableLab and ChatGPT for this proposal. As I understand the current forum format is open for anyone to join and vote multiple times. Maybe we could investigate implementing some anti Sybil measures first?

Yeah that’s a great point. We can probably ask commonwealth to implement a feature where everyone who votes on a forum temp check poll will have their username shown. This is something that can be implemented on discourse but I’m not too sure whether it is a feature on commonwealth.

@RoundElephant are you aware if this is a current feature?

I can see who voted for what on each temperature-check poll by clicking on the vote total (orange in dark mode, blue in light mode). It even lets me download a .csv of the voting results.

I don’t think this is just an admin feature, as I have the same ability to view results on the dYdX forum. Can you guys confirm that this feature is available to you?

I support this change.

Since this is a signaling proposal, would you like to progress this through the 1IP-20 Fast Track route that has recently been implemented?
