[1IP-17] 1inch DAO Donation to Humanitarian Relief Efforts in Turkiye

Title

1inch DAO Donation to Humanitarian Relief Efforts in Turkiye

Summary

This proposal calls for 1inch DAO to donate *$100,000 USD towards humanitarian relief efforts in response to the devastating earthquakes that struck Turkiye (Turkey) on February 6th, 2023.

Abstract

This 1IP proposes a donation of $100,000 from the 1inch DAO treasury towards humanitarian relief efforts responding to the devastating earthquakes that occurred on 6 February 2023 in southern and central Turkey. This donation is intended to help save the lives of the victims who are surely facing severe shortages of food, shelter, medical supplies, clean water access, electricity supply disruption etc., due to extensive damage caused by these earthquakes.

Motivation

This proposal seeks to express solidarity with those affected by this tragedy while also providing tangible support for ongoing relief efforts being carried out by non-profit organizations.

By donating funds directly to a non-profit we can ensure our contribution will be used effectively where it matters most - supporting people impacted across Turkiye.

Specification

The exact vector the DAO uses for the donation should be discussed in this thread.

There are several Giveth campaigns to choose from:

Alternatively, Turkey Earthquake Relief DAO has a curated list of officially verified addresses.

I have not yet thoroughly vetted any of these options, so I would very much appreciate input from the community.

Rationale

Given current estimates of over 20,000 fatalities, over 70,000 severe injuries, and several million displaced — there is an urgent need for immediate assistance. The faster we act, the more lives we potentially save.

The donation must be made on-chain so that the funds can trustlessly be spent via a DAO vote.

Considerations

From a security standpoint, there are no major implications associated with this proposal other than verifying that the Safesnap transaction data is correct.

Though Syria was also affected by the earthquake, it is currently under international sanctions and has been omitted from this proposal.

This proposal is still in draft form. We, as a community, need to decide the following before it goes to a temperature check vote:

  • The donation amount.
    • I proposed $100,000 in this draft but this should be a community decision.
  • Donation vector.
    • It needs to be on Ethereum mainnet, but we need to also research the options.

Thanks for this suggestion @RoundElephant, I think 100K is a good amount to be donated to this cause

BanklessDAO Turkey Disaster Relief Fund will engage in accounting and reporting on the way these funds are being spent, maybe we can ask the other campaigns if they have such plans? In any case, we can simply split the funds between different campaigns as long as the campaign or its organisers have some legitimacy within the ecosystem.

Note that: Turkey Earthquake Relief DAO and GnosisDAO Earthquake Relief are using the same address.

GnosisDAO EQ Relief donations are going to Ahbap NGO, one of the most reputable NGOs on the ground.

Fully support this proposal.

gm, i am the initiator of the BanklessDAO Turkish project on giveth. Please let me help with any questions you have.

This is not a race of who raised the most, everyone here is trying to heal some wounds.

Thank you for helping us.

Another potential donation vector is Anka – they are committed to distributing funds across multiple high-impact NGOs working to help the people in Turkiye.

Vitalik recently donated through Anka, so we could consider this his seal of approval.

Initially, the Ahbap Ethereum address said it would only be monitored for 1-week – the proposal process takes 2-weeks so it was a non-starter.

However, it seems like that is no longer the case so it is totally viable now. This seems to be the most popular and trusted option in this space.

I talk about it in another comment in this thread but I think Anka is another great option.

At this point, I think we need to just decide on one. The entire voting and fund distribution process takes 2-weeks so it is critical we start the temperature-check today or tomorrow.

This forum post is legendary and thank you so very much for thinking of us here at Giveth for the donation platform of choice, @roundelephant

Something even stronger, we believe, that we recently put together is a quadratically funded, matching pool project to help all of the Turkish / Syrian earthquake relief projects on our platform at once. With that said, we are urgently appealing for your donation to be shared equally amongst these projects by donating to this single matching pool. Here: https://giveth.io/project/earthquake-relief-qf-matching-pool

Additionally, as you probably are already aware, we will even subsidize your donation with our token economy through our GIVbacks program.

And for anyone else looking to learn a little bit more about this joint effort and the 4 causes that your donations will go to, please find it here:[ https://medium.com/giveth/ways-to-help-earthquake-victims-in-turkey-and-syria-on-giveth-155d785516](https://medium.com/giveth/ways-to-help-earthquake-victims-in-turkey-and-syria-on-giveth-155d7855164)4

The Turkey donation temperature check vote was successful. I was in the process of making the Snapshot vote, and found an issue when double-checking the Ahbap address. It is not longer listed on the Ahbap website and Etherscan says that it has been “migrated” https://etherscan.io/address/0xe1935271d1993434a1a59fe08f24891dc5f398cd

It is still critical to put these funds to work helping people on the ground in Turkey, so the final proposal will donate that half through Bankless DAO’s Turkey initiative on Giveth.. The total donation amount is unchanged but I’ll clearly note this deviation from the original plan in the proposal.
